Calculus for me was years ago. Background, yes. Something I focused on or knew really well? Not really.

I was one class short of a minor in German so I have some rudimentary knowledge in linguistics.

Those things, however, (calculus and linguistics) are not my strong suits. If they are looking for someone with a heavy mathematics or language/linguistics background then I'm probably not a great fit.

Machine learning is something I mess around with occasionally. Again, not a strong suit although I'm familiar with a lot of the biologically-inspired stuff. No actual industry experience doing any of it. Just theoretical knowledge from papers and my own experiments writing some things.

Feel free to forward anything you want. I'd be really interested if you could poke around and ask some of your Canadian colleagues how one would acquire a job in the country. Places to look, etc.

What about the Ph.D programs? Paid positions?
